CHARITABLE WORK

"We can all help. You must ask yourself: 'What have I done today to make myself feel proud?'"

Tony is well-known in the industry for his philanthropic gestures, and is affiliated with a number of charities, including A Creative Crisis (for distressed members of the artistic community), Celebrities weep at Christmas, We care with a Chair, Greg Doran Survivors Network, Only women bleed, dontlaughatmebecauseicantwalk.com, etc., For these and other charities, Tony has taken part in numerous fund-raising events and awareness campaigns: some memorable examples from this long list include a reading of Tam O'Shanter for patients at the Burns Unit of Edinburgh General, the TV 'infomercials' he and Lenny Henry made for Diss not my prosthesis brother, and his appearance on Comic Relief parodying his own persona, as 'Death' playing chess for the soul of Sven Goran-Eriksson. However, Tony's biggest charitable commitment is as the public face of the human rights charity Concerned Planet. In this capacity he recently hosted the BBC Telethon Tonight, let's all send fish to Africa, which each year aims to put a sprat in every begging bowl on that troubled continent. Tony has stated that this charity is the one closest to his heart - indeed, he is one of their major sponsors and they share offices with his production company - and has revealed that he has a tattoo of their panda logo somewhere on his body.
